Welcome to the Georgia Chapter
of the U.S. National Committee for UN Women

Since its founding in 2004, the Georgia Chapter has strived to promote the mission of UN Women to:

  • Reduce female poverty
  • End violence against women,
  • Halt the spread of HIV/AIDS among women and girls, and
  • Achieve gender equality in democratic governance.
Working with government agencies, other women's organizations and local media the chapter has brought, and continues to bring, awarness to women's issues at home and around the world.

The Chapter's annual fundraising and educational events help to drive awareness, increase membership, and raise funds to support the many ongoing projects supported by UN Women throughout the year:

Mother, Sister, Daughter  is a major fundraising event that often occurs in conjunction with International Women's Day.

5k Spring Walk to end violence against women and girls attracted 120 participants this year and generated strong support for the Internatonal Violence Against Women Act (I-VAWA.)

Annual Membership Meeting provides members and the general public the opportunity to learn more about the chapter, the US National Committee, and the progress of UN Women programs around the world.  For the past two years we have provided free screenings of compelling documentary films such as Pray the Devil Back to Hell, the story of Liberian women banding together  to help end a bloody civil war in their country, and Taking Root: The Vision of Wangari Maathai, the dramatic story of Kenyan Nobel Peach Prize Laureate, Wangari Maathai, whose simple act of planting trees grew into a nationwide movement to safeguard the environment, protect human rights and defend democracy.

The Chapter also uses the annual meeting as an opportunity to honor members who have made a significant contribution through their involvement over the past year with its Member Laureate designation.

Uncork Knowledge wine tasting event provides members and non-members the opportunity to meet and socialize in a casual and fun setting while learning more about the chapter and UN Women.

Please join us in creating a world where women and girls live free from violence, poverty, and inequality.
