2011

August: Visiting members of congress and home offices to share and support issues and support increased funding for UN Women.

September:  UN Day of the Girl on September 22nd to spark awareness on girls’ rights and policy impact on girls’ education.  United Nations High level meeting on prevention and control of Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) will also occur in September. NCDs kill millions of women every year and represent a threat to women’s health and development. Also, children born to mothers with NCDs are likely to suffer from infant under-nutrition or late physical and cognitive NCDs in adulthood.

October
: Call-in week for UN Women (2nd Week of October).

November
: 23-day walk to support initiatives to end violence against women and promote increased funding for UN Women. Around the world, at least one in three women has been beaten or sexually assaulted in their lifetime – majority from their husbands, intimate partner or someone they know. Gender based violence of any kind is recognized as a violation of human rights.

December
: World Aids Day – December 1st. HIV/AIDS in women continues to grow at an alarming rate. HIV is the fifth leading cause of death among all women from 35 to 44 years old.  And many HIV-positive women are stigmatized and suffer from social exclusion. Keep up the fight against spread of HIV/AIDS.
