About Us

The New Jersey Chapter of the U.S. National Committee for UN Women was founded in March 2011 by President Yvonne Garlin. Currently, the Chapter has thirty five members across all ages and professions. The official launching of the Chapter will be on June 23, 2011 between 6pm and 8pm at the Jersey City, City Hall Chambers. According to Yvonne, the chapter is looking forward to empowering New Jersey's women through its support for UN Women and its programs.

Yvonne said "With the U.S. National Committee for UN Women, our chapter will work towards raising public awareness and funds to support UN Women's projects around the world, enhancing women's economic security and rights, ending violence against women, reducing the prevalence of HIV/AIDS among women and girls, advancing gender justice in democratic governance in stable and fragile states."

As President of the New Jersey Chapter of the U.S. National Committee for UN Women, Yvonne Garlin coordinates the Chapter’s volunteer service efforts that create, promote and support program initiatives.  She works with non-profits, community and faith-based organizations and corporations to support the U.S. National Committee for UN Women initiatives by brokering partnerships, establishing sustainable funding resources and creating effective monitoring systems.
