USNC for UN Women Celebrates Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's
Women and the Economy Summit in San Francisco

San Francisco was the epicenter of Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton's vision for a Women and the Economy Summit last week! Inspired by this historic gathering, local NGOs hosted a plethora of exciting events throughout the week culminating in live simulcasts of Clinton's keynote address.

How was USNC-UN Women involved? USNC Board Member Stephanie Block         worked closely with local leaders in advance and during this groundbreaking summit.  She even got her photograph taken with Michelle Bachelet, UN Women Executive Director!  San Francisco Bay Area Chapter co-presidents Carrie Dickenson and Cecilia Lipp helped spread the word about who we are and what we do.

In tandem with APEC, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, an important trade region conference that the United States is hosting in November, San Francisco hosted a high-level summit focusing on women and issues like access to capital and markets, skills and capacity building, and leadership. Delegates included CEOs, top US Cabinet members, Ministers of APEC economies Australia, Japan, China, Mexico, Russia, the Republic of Korea, and more.

Former NFL Pro Donald McPherson Joins USNC Board

We are pleased to announce that former Philadelphia Eagle/ Houston Oiler and College Football Hall of Famer Donald McPherson recently joined our USNC board. He brings an impressive portfolio of substantial national work on ending gender-based violence to the table. Combining his experience with a venerable international organization working to empower women on a global scale is a match made in activist heaven. Male participation is crucial to the fight to end violence against women in the world, and men like Donald McPherson, who have mighty accolades in both the sports arena and the women’s rights arena, provide a powerful role model.
