Gulf Coast Chapter - About Us
Founded in 1993, the Gulf Coast Chapter is one of the largest U.S. National Committee Chapters. Through the volunteer work of out dedicated members, the Gulf Coast Chapter raises community awareness and funds for UN Women by:
- presenting informative programs and entertaining events highlighting the status and successes of women and girls here and abroad;
- providing speakers to community organizations throughout the Gulf Coast; and mentoring the next generation of informed and empowered women through our Learners to Leaders program.
At any given moment, there are some 150 projects receiving support from UN Women. With the generous support of governments, foundations, corporations, organizations, and individuals, historic victories for women's empowerment and gender equity have been - and continue to be - achieved.
Learners to Leaders having a great time!

Welcome to the UN Women USNC at the University of Virginia Club
In the 21st century, the age of progress and new ideas, women continue to stand at the bottom of the socio-economic ladder due to the prevalent patriarchal social system and lack of resources. Female UVA students, like me, have the opportunity to secure higher education and the hopes of a promising career.
We have basic freedoms that many women lack, and I feel that it is important for the students at UVA to empower women worldwide. It will bring a new perspective to UVA students, while helping millions of women and girls realize their dreams.
Maya Venkatraman, Founder and President of UVA Club
