IV. Fundraising Activities

Support to UNIFEM: $50,000.

Nearly all UNIFEM/USA activities have the shared goals of increasing awareness about UNIFEM and the US Committee, increasing members, and raising funds. In addition to independently raising all of the funds needed to operate, UNIFEM/USA also raised $50,000 for UNIFEM during the 2006-2007 calendar year, meeting the goal set in the Recognition Agreement with UNIFEM. UNIFEM/USA continues our efforts to increase funds for UNIFEM to surpass the $50,000 annual goal set in the Agreement. The Committee is striving to identify unique ways of attracting members and donors to the organization.

Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of UNIFEM Fundraiser

Recognizing the need to ensure sufficient operating funds for UNIFEM/USA, Vice President for Fund Development, Judy Ramey, joined forces with Public Relations Chair, Diane Olson, to create a fund raising event for the Committee at the House of Sweden. With the help of a dynamic steering committee and with the dedication of our Director of Programs, Kaytee O’Neill, this group raised funds for Committee operations. With over 200 people attending, the event raised over $35,000. The Executive Team and the Board are grateful for this extra effort as we transition to a group of new leaders at our next Board meeting.

In recognition of the 30th Anniversary of UNIFEM, the United States National Committee for UNIFEM hosted this premier event under the gracious patronage of His Excellency the Ambassador of Sweden and Mrs. Kari Lotsberg at the newly constructed "House of Sweden" on June 22. The Honorable Hillary Rodham Clinton served as honorary chair of the event. The Congressional Women’s Caucus Co-Chairs, The Honorable Lois Capps and The Honorable Cathy McMorris Rodgers, headed the Honorary Congressional Committee.

U.S. National Committee for UNIFEM Partnership with Classy Acts LLC

The U.S. National Committee for UNIFEM has continued to work with Lynne Revo-Cohen and Danielle Westphal of Classy Acts LLC. Danielle performed at our Celebrate the Arts fundraiser and most recently, Lynne and Danielle have collaborated to write a theme song for U.S. National Committee for UNIFEM entitled "I Can Touch the Sun". The song and DVD premiered at the February 28th luncheon at the UN and an early version was shown by the Sarasota chapter. Since then, Judy Ramey, Diane Olson, Ruth Zeller, Kaytee O’Neill and Sheryl Swed have continued to work with Classy Acts LLC to refine the DVD for its Washington, DC launch on June 22, 2007. Once completed, the DVD will be sent to all of the Chapters and will be streamed on our website. Copies will also be sent to all of the National Committees for UNIFEM.

Our vision for the "I Can Touch the Sun" song and DVD is to promote the mission of UNIFEM and to unite individuals and organizations around the globe to make a positive difference in the lives of women and their families. Also, a portion of the sales proceeds will be donated to U.S. National Committee for UNIFEM to support our mission. Thank you to Judy Ramey, Diane Olson, Ruth Zeller and Kaytee O’Neill for their vital support with this DVD project. A special thanks is owed to Lynne Revo-Cohen and Danielle Westphal for their creativity and dedication to the goals of the Committee and UNIFEM in producing this DVD for UNIFEM/USA.
