On Thursday, July 27, 2006, Board members, friends and supporters of UNIFEM/USNC gathered at Hemphill Fine Arts to "Celebrate the Arts." The evening showcased an art exhibition by Benjamin Abramowitz, the music of Lynn Revo-Cohen sung by jazz vocalist Danielle Westphal, the unveiling of the UNIFEM/USNC Quilt by Lisa Ellis and a silent auction – all to benefit our mission of working towards a world where women and girls live free from violence, poverty and inequality.

Vice President Judy Ramey opened the evening by welcoming guests and thanking the event sponsors. President Sheryl J. Swed spoke about UNIFEM’s projects around the globe, their impact on women’s lives and the role of the US National Commitee. The evening’s program continued with George Hemphill, Founder of Hemphill Fine Arts, introducing featured artist, Benjamin Abramowitz. Mr. Abramowitz spoke about his perspective of the art world through the decades and captivated the audience with his speech.

The night also featured the unveiling of the USNC Quilt designed by Lisa Ellis. The quilt, inspired by UNIEFEM/USNC’s "Femme-y Award of Excellence" presented to Neale Godfrey at National Museum of Women in the Arts last May, has an African design and includes the outline of the UNIFEM logo on the lower right hand corner. Ms. Ellis also included a photo of the Femme-y statue on the back of the quilt, as well as a paragraph about the award and her inspiration.

The program concluded with a performance by Danielle Westphal, accompanied by pianist Dan Reynolds. Their set included music from the album, "When You Fall," a CD featuring the music of Lynn Revo-Cohen, sung by Danielle Westphal. A portion of all sales from the CD benefits the US National Committee.
