CEDAW Chairperson calls for balance between women’s rights and development

Member States were on Friday urged to be vigilant in the implementation of a global treaty to eliminate discrimination against women. The call was made by Nicole Améline, Chairperson of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) during an interactive dialogue with Member States. Briefing reporters afterwards, she recalled that while the treaty deals with human rights, it has an important part related to the empowerment of women.
