Join us on March 6 as we celebrate the accomplishments of women from around the world with an event filled with food, film, guest speakers and important conversations around this year’s theme of Women’s Rights, Women’s Voices, Women’s Visions.
We’ll hear candid stories of women’s lives from Africa and Europe from the anthology 50 Women compiled by Jessica Buchleitner who will join us and be interviewed by guest emcee, Polina Hryn, co-host of the Laguna Beach radio program, Spoken Word, Spoken Song.
Annahita Mahdavi will lead a conversation on “How Empowerment Happens.”
Laura Siqueiros, from the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, will spotlight Latin American women artists whose intense works have been displayed in such prestigious galleries as the Guggenheim and the Tate Modern.
We’ll also learn about a terrific program – Music in Common – which brings together young people from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds to strengthen, empower and educate themselves and audiences through the universal language of music.
I’ll deliver a short history of the iconic Chilean activist, poet and folk artist, Violeta Parra and we’ll get an update from Lori Vandermeir (Head of Communications for the U.S. National Committee for UN Women) on the latest UN Women projects.
In addition, we’ll hear from poet Selma Mann, Adrienne Faye will discuss her work with the Himalayan Children’s Community, we’ll screen an important documentary (details coming soon) and enjoy a lovely ethnic supper. The silent auction will include women-made, original art and designs.
